  • I don't have to reboot too often - just close the lid and don't update.Ĭhances are, it would still brick soon, but it's something I wanted to try before putting it in the dump.
  • even if the GPU breaks again, cpu would be able to boot up and then gpu-switch would switch to integrated-only.
  • with the discrete GPU disabled, the CPU will not generate enough heat to make the GPU relapse.

I've used gpu-switch to execute it on startup (from crontab). Once you get up and running, disable the discrete GPU and don't reboot. This would make it come back to life for a bit more (note, everyone agrees this is a temporary hack only). While there, also re-greased the cpu + gpu with a proper arctic silver thermal grease. Mine also didn't even get past the apple logo, but I tried the idea on the net where you disassemble the logic board and apply 120-160 celsius degrees temperatures with a heat gun. If I can fix it, I MIGHT buy another mac product, but I'd hate to get caught in this kind of a lurch again just because I don't shell out enough money for Apple when they screw up. So now I'm using the discrete chip with slow graphics, and I don't know if I can even USE the integrated chip. Thanks Apple for locking me out of my machine completely.).

I don't know if that's because I had to move the driver (after going to target disk mode and using my wife's Mac because Sierra won't let you move any files if you can't boot into Recovery mode, which I couldn't, to turn off rootless. At any rate, I can't get v2.3 to switch to integrated graphics as it continues to claim I'm using an external monitor. If their "vintage" (yeah, that's the term they use) macs can't be replaced with anything comparable, don't know what else to do. And, worse yet, Apple won't fix it claiming they no longer have the parts to do so (possibly true, but who knows the truth but them), or offer any kind of monetary settlement to fix anything like the program offered people who attempted to fix it prior to their program.

I would really appreciate some help & advice on resolving this matter & how to stop this issues happening as well as ensuring the App keeps everything in Integrated mode so my NBP is protected from the Graphics issue striking again - please see pics attached.Yeah, I pretty much had the same thing happen. If I manually make sure Integrated is set on all sections, it somehow sets itself to Discrete at a later stage & the only way one knows this us by checking as the "i" always shows in the menubar - so one always assumes that Integrated mode is in play when that may not be the case. If I try to switch back to Integrated again, the app can hang & I ahem to force quit it & start all over again hoping that it will not hang again at start up. When it does activate, it never defaults to the "Integrated" setting options inputed & shows a "D" in the menubar - however, when one checks the preferences, it will show that "Integrated Only" switched by itself to "Dynamic or Discrete Switching" even though under preferences, "Integrated" is selected on both Battery & Plugged In section. Unfortunately, it is very buggy & I often have to quit it via Activity Monitor as many times, it shows as "Not Responding". I saw a video on YouTube whereby one user stated that the latest version of GFX does not work for the Graphics issue on 2011 MBP's & to only use the previous 2.0.1 version which I was lucky enough to find & install.

I have also set it so it automatically logs in at start up & shows up in the menubar.

I was strongly told to install GFXCardStatus & leave it in Integrated Mode only.

I have a Late 2011 17" 2.4 Macbook Pro running Mavericks.Ī couple of weeks ago, I suffered a graphics issue 7 was lucky in that the MBP restarted & seems to be working OK - for the most part but I do still have some bugs & lock ups etc. I am a novice with no experience in coding or anything like that.
